New to PowerLynx Hotspot Business – Seeking Guidance

Dear PowerLynx Community,

I hope this message finds you well.

My name is [Hassan from Nigeria, jigawa state], and I’m new to the hotspot business. While going through the information about the PowerLynx software, I learned that it is designed for hotspot service providers in rural or underserved areas across the world. From what I understand, the software allows people like me to resell hotspot bandwidth to high-end customers and earn a small income.

If my understanding is correct, I would like to know the following:
1. What are the basic hardware equipment requirements and their costs?
2. How do I get started with setting up the system?
3. Is there any documentation or step-by-step guide available for beginners?

However, if my understanding is off-track, I would really appreciate it if someone could guide me properly. I’m very interested in the hotspot business and passionate about anything related to tech entrepreneurship.

Thank you in advance for your time and support

Hello,

I’m Alex Support Engineer at Powerlynx.

Your understanding is correct.

Regarding your questions:

  • “What are the basic hardware equipment requirements and their costs?”

At a minimum, you should have a device that can function as both a hotspot controller and a wireless access point. Alternatively, you can use a separate hotspot controller with one or more access points connected.

Hotspot Controller Requirement

To use Powerlynx effectively, a hotspot controller is required.

Please note that the hotspot controller acts as a proxy between Powerlynx and your hotspot network. Powerlynx communicates only with the hotspot controller. Other devices (such as access points) connected to this controller are not directly visible to Powerlynx. Therefore, it’s critical that your hotspot controller is properly configured and fully compatible with Powerlynx.

Recommended Setup

For optimal performance, we recommend using a router (not just an access point) as your hotspot controller. Most access points lack the required functionality for seamless Powerlynx integration. That said, access points can still be connected and managed through the primary hotspot controller.

Hotspot Controller Requirements:

  • WireGuard VPN or Public IP support
A VPN connection is highly recommended, especially if your router is behind NAT. MikroTik devices support WireGuard from RouterOS version 7 and above.

  • RADIUS client compatibility

  • Hotspot/captive portal support

Supported Hotspot Controllers

Powerlynx supports the following devices as hotspot controllers:

Other access points (such as MikroTik APs, Cambium, Teltonika, UniFi, TP-Link, etc.) can be connected to your hotspot controller but cannot act as standalone hotspot controllers.
